MACROGLOBULINEMIA DI WALDENSTRÖM

La macroglobulinemia di Waldenström o malattia di Waldenström (WM) generalmente segue un decorso indolente.

In modo simile a quanto avviene in altre neoplasie ematologiche, quali ad esempio il mieloma multiplo, in alcuni pazienti una condizione non neoplastica chiamata IgM-MGUS precede la WM. Una piccola percentuale di pazienti con IgM-MGUS si trasforma in WM ogni anno.(McMaster 2010)

La WM inizialmente è asintomatica (WMsmouldering). La WM asintomatica a sua volta può lentamente progredire verso la malattia sintomatica che richiede un trattamento.
